Description
Up for grabs is an exceptionally rare and gorgeous transitional Rolex GMT-Master, circa 1964, in 18kt Yellow Gold. Rolex transitioned from the Reference 6542 to the 1675 in 1959, and implemented the use of crown guards on the steel models; however, they did not immediately change the gold cased GMTs, and the remained with no crown guards for several years.
This Rolex GMT-Master is in great vintage condition. The case has been lightly polished in the past, with thick and even lugs, and original beveled edges still visible. The dial is immaculate, with its original gloss finish, and little-to-no wear. The original tritium lume is present on both original nipple dial and original and rare dauphine hands, aged to a pale yellow. The original brown fat font bezel is immaculate, with no wear.
These early gold GMTs are a true Rolex collector’s grail, and have become difficult to find in such nice condition.
