Rolex “3055 Piccolino” Chronograph

SOLD

Description

When the reference 3055 chronograph from Rolex debuted in the 1930s, it was marketed as the smallest chronograph wristwatch in the world; a second round of watches were produced in the 1950s with square pushers.  This particular example dates to 1934 (from the first execution of watches produced), and features a very rare sector and snail dial, a design that continued through the 40s, and sadly was not used often after that.  This reference has been nicknamed the “piccolino”, Italian for “little one”.

The condition of this Rolex chronograph is excellent for its age.  The case remains unpolished and with minimal wear for its age.  The original sector dial presents extremely wear, with an even patina set in and no major wear or damage.  Further, the watch is fitted on a steel bamboo bracelet.
