Description
Up for grabs is a very beautiful and super crisp example of a Rolex GMT-Master with a glossy gilt dial, circa 1965-66 (1.4m serial), reference 1675, that we have seen in quite some time. This example is the last gilt dial Rolex produced before transitioning to the matte dial in/around 1967.
This Rolex GMT-Master is in excellent vintage condition. The case is unpolished and razor sharp, with factory beveled edges. The dial is beautiful – still very glossy, with no visible wear under a loupe. The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a orange-yellow color; interestingly, we can see clear signs of Rolex experimenting with lume compounds on this watch, with a different zinc sulfide compound used on the hands and 6-9-12 markers, likely done for increased night time expedious legibility, similar to the more often see lighter zinc lume plots on small crown Submariners at 6 o’clock. The original and period-correct fat-font “Pepsi” bezel insert is in nice condition, with a nice and deep fade set in to the colors. Further, the watch comes equipped on a Rolex Swiss Jubilee bracelet with 50 endlinks, dated to 1967, with minimal stretch, fitting an approximate 7.4″ wrist.
