Gallet “Clamshell” Chronograph

Description

Gallet is one of the oldest and most storied watch makers, with roots dating as far back as the 1400s. Gallet & Cie was officially formed in 1826 in Switzerland, and since then, they have become a renowned manufacture. So renowned that in 1939, then President Harry S. Truman commissioned Gallet to produce aviation watches for the United States Army Air Forces, which would be known as the “Flying Officer”.

Up for grabs is a stunning and rare Gallet “clamshell” chronograph, circa 1940s, from their MultiChron “30M” line. This example features an uncommon two-tone “snail” dial layout.  The watch is in great condition. The case is unpolished and sharp.  The dial shows light wear, and is overall extremely well-preserved and attractive.  The crown appears to be a later replacement.
