SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is an extremely rare and attractive chronograph, produced by Wittnauer in the late 1940s-1950s. Wittnauer very scarcely produced watches in large, screwback and pump-pushers cases; this watch comes in at just under 37mm (excluding the crown), making it very large for the era. Further, the watch is fitted with a lovely two-tone dial, not often seen.
This Wittnauer chronograph is in great vintage condition. The case is unpolished and very sharp. The original dial is devoid of any real flaws, and shows a light patina setting in, and is very striking. The caseback is engraved “To J.B.C. From Sun Oil Co. Employees. 10-16-52”. Presumably, this watch was purchased as a gift by Sunoco employees in 1952, and presented to an executive from within the company.
