Universal Geneve "Spillmann" Compax

Universal Geneve “Spillmann” Compax

Description

Up for grabs is a rare and desirable Universal Geneve Uni-Compax chronograph, dating to the 1940s.  What makes this example special is the use of an oversized waterproof “Spillmann” case to house the watch.  These cases were used by a variety of brands in the 1940s (such as Bovet, Marvin, and Doxa to name a few), and at 38mm, they were very large for the era.  This particular example features a more uncommon three-register configuration, with the luminescent plots placed in the inner part of the dial.

This example is in great vintage condition.  The case is unpolished and razor sharp.  The dial has light patina throughout, consistent with a watch from the 1940s, and overall very attractive with no major damage or wear.  The original radium lume is still present on the dial, aged to a nice yellow patina; the hands appear to have been relumed in the past, and no longer glow under a UV light, but match the dial well.
