Rolex "PCG Exclamation" GMT-Master - Menta Watches- Buy Vintage and Modern Timepieces

Offered here is a rare and extraordinarily beautiful Rolex GMT-Master, circa 1962. This early GMT-Master is fitted with a rare gilt dial, with an uncommon closed chapter ring and “exclamation” dial, which refers to the little lume dot below the 6 o’clock marker, appearing as an exclamation mark. Popular conjecture explains the use of the exclamation mark by Rolex to signify their transition to a lower level of radiation in the luminous compound. Further, the dial was fitted in what is known as a “pointed crown guards” case, used for a short period of time in early Rolex sports models, transitioned from the no crown guards cases of the first GMT-Master Reference 6542. The cases can be identified by their short, pointed and thin crown guards, later rounded out and made thicker by Rolex.

This early GMT-Master is in great vintage condition. The case has been previously expertly polished, showing thick lugs and beautifully beveled edges. The dial is incredible – with its factory mirror-like gloss finish, with virtually no wear, and only the tiniest of imperfections near the base of the hands. The original radium lume is present on both the dial and hands, in perfect shape, and aged to a golden yellow. The original “fat font” bezel is in beautiful condition, aged with a beautiful and even fade, and orange hue to the red half.

The watch comes fitted on a Rolex stretch-rivet 6636 bracelet, with 80 endlinks, and 12 full links, dated to 1963. Further, the bracelet is in excellent condition, with no stretch.
