Up for grabs is a very rare and stunning Rolex Datejust, Ref. 1601, an 18kt yellow gold wristwatch, dating to 1972-73, and is fitted with a rare “Lapis Lazuli” stone dial. The reference 1601 is the earliest iteration of the Datejust to use stone dials, and are amongst the most coveted by collectors. This particular example comes complete as a full-set, with its original Rolex box (missing the inner pillow) and “punched” Warranty Certificate, showing the original sale of the watch in Caracas, Venezuela in 1975.
The condition of this Rolex Datejust is great. The case is sharp, with normal wear from use; if it was ever polished, it was done very lightly. The Lapis stone dial is in perfect condition, with no cracks or marks.
