SOLD
Description
Offered here is a rare Breitling Co-Pilot chronograph, nicknamed the “Jean Claude Killy”, as the famous skiier was known to where this exact model when he won the gold in all three Alpine skiing events at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble. These watches, intended for use by pilots, were considered extremely large for the era, and have become a staple in the Breitling collector’s arsenal. Additionally, the present example stands out due to the fact that it has been co-signed by the French manufacturer, LIP, for retail specifically by them in the 1960s.
This Breitling Co-Pilot is in nice vintage condition. The case has been lightly polished in the past, but is nice and strong, maintaining its original bevels in the lugs. The dial is in great condition, showing very light wear/patina in the registers. Further, the original tritium lume is still present on the dial, aged to a nice yellow color; the hands appear to be a very old relume, matching the dial closely in color and glow, but slightly greener in shade.
