Description
Offered here is an incredible example of Rolex Daytona, Ref. 6265, circa 1970, fitted with an exotic dial, nicknamed the “Paul Newman” Daytona, due to the fact that the famous actor favored wearing the Rolex Daytona with the exotic dial, and can be seen in many photographs wearing the watch. The reference 6265 is one of the rarest of all the Paul Newman (or Daytona in general) variants, produced for a very short period of time, and one of the only references to feature a “two-color” dial, showing on black and white colors, as well as this reference having screw-down pushers. This particular example comes to us fresh-to-market for the first time since new: the watch was bought new by an Argentinian citizen of Japanese descent, with his name on the papers, and also written on the booklets, with a copy of his ID matching all the documentation. Around a dozen years ago, the original owner sold it to a colleague of ours in his home country, where it has sat in a safe unseen by the world ever since (documentation of that sale is also included). The watch remains complete, with its original Rolex box, Warranty Certificate, and booklets.
The condition of this “Paul Newman” Daytona is downright spectacular. The case appears unpolished, with no wear to the pin holes, and remaining sharp to the touch on the bottom side of the case. The dial is in immaculate condition, with no wear or scratches, and the absolute lightest of patina visible under a loupe. The original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, with extremely beautiful and puffy, yellow plots, and no visible loss whatsoever.
The watch comes on its original Rolex Swiss folded-link 7836/19 bracelet with 271 endlinks, dating to 1971. The bracelet has 13 full links and no stretch.
This is a world-class example of one of the most coveted Paul Newman Daytonas on the planet – you will be hard pressed to find a better example on the market (or ever)!
