SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is a rare Tudor Submariner, with incredible provenance. This watch was purchased from the original owner, a member of the U.S. Navy, and part of the famous “UDT” or “Underwater Demolition Team”. According to him, he purchased this Tudor shortly after enrolling in the Navy, and wore it throughout his entire service up until a few weeks ago when he decided to part with the watch. Included in the sale is a voluminous dossier of his time in service, replete with service papers, photos of his time in the Navy (including one of him wearing the Tudor), copies of his UDT training exercise paperwork, photos of his UDT team, and other documents related to his time spent in the UDT. Included in the sale also is his UDT Zippo lighter, a recent photograph of him wearing the watch, and the original gaskets and crystal, which he kept after a routine service on the watch.
Aside from having amazing provenance, the watch itself is incredibly rare. Dating to 1964, this Tudor Submariner, Ref. 7928, features a rare “underline” and “chapter ring” dial, not often seen.
The watch itself is in great vintage condition, considering it was worn and used during military service. The case has never been polished, and the original beveled edges are still visible. The dial has developed a uniform patina throughout, and is very attractive, with no chips, marks, or scratches. The original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, aged to a warm yellow. Please note, the serial number has mostly been worn away, but the numbers can partially be made out with a loupe, the first number clearly being a 4, and the second either a 0,6, or 8. The Reference numbers “7928” can clearly be seen with a loupe between the top lugs.
