Vacheron Constantin “4178 Rose Gold Turler” Chronograph

SOLD

Description

Offered here is a stunning, elegant and rare Vacheron Constantin Chronograph, reference 4178, circa 1950s.  The reference 4178 was produced by Vacheron Constantin from 1940 through 1964, and during that time, only 280 pieces were produced in rose gold using the caliber 434 movement (VC also used a caliber 492 for this model).  The present example is one such rose gold watch, with matching rose gold dial (“pink on pink”).  However, what further sets this watch apart from the pack is the retailer’s signature, Turler, so-signed on the dial, and made for retail sales by them in their stores.  In our research, we were only able to locate one other example of a reference 4178 co-signed Turler, in yellow gold and sold by Phillips in 2019.

This Vacheron Constantin chronograph is in great vintage condition.  The case has likely been lightly polished in the past, but remains thick and even with a strong case.  The original dial is in very attractive condition, with no major damage or marks, and a light patina from natural aging set in evenly on the dial.

This VC chronograph is exceptionally rare – I doubt we will ever see a pink-on-pink example also co-signed for the retailer Turler.  A truly stunning watch that checks all the right boxes – beauty, rarity, and exclusivity!
