Offered here is an incredibly beautiful example of the so-called “transitional” Submariner, the Reference 16800, which was Rolex’s follow-up to the Reference 1680. The 16800 introduced the quick-set function to the Submariner and featured their new Caliber 3035 movement.
The present example dates to 1981-82 (7.3m), and is in excellent condition. The case has been polished, but the case remains thick and has nice and sharp edges. The dial is pristine, with not a blemish in sight. The original tritium lume is present on dial, aged a striking orange or “pumpkin” color; the hands have been professionally color-matched to the dial. The watch comes on a Rolex 93150/593 bracelet, in excellent condition with minimal stretch, and 12 full links.
