Rolex “Pre-Comex” Submariner

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a very attractive example of a no-date Rolex Submariner, Ref. 5513, circa 1977 (5.1m serial), with a rare “Pre-Comex” dial.  The term “Pre-Comex” was termed by a well-known collector and Rolex scholar in order to differentiate this dial variant from the Maxi dials, as it shares characteristics with the Reference 5514 Comex Submariners.  These “Pre-Comex” dials are only found in a small serial range, likely only produced for no more than 2-3 years.

The condition on this Rolex Submariner is excellent.  The case is unpolished, with normal wear, and original bevels still present.  The dial is in mint condition, with no chips, scratches, or marks; the original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow color. Further, bezel insert is correct for this period of Submariner, and in great condition, starting to fade slightly to grey. The watch comes on its original Rolex Oyster  flip-lock 93150/580 bracelet, with 11 full links, “Pateted” diver’s extension, and very light stretch.
