Up for grabs is an incredibly rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual, circa 1956, signed “Deepsea”, featuring a black, gilt dial, and an Explorer 3-6-9-style dial layout. Although the history of the Deepsea is unclear, it is believed that the model was produced as an homage or extension to the original Deepsea prototype model that set diving records in 1953.
This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Deepsea is in great vintage condition. The case appears unpolished and sharp. The dial is in great condition, with no major damage and still glossy (with brightly aged gilt writing), and with a light patina in the center of the dial from exposure to the radium lume. Further, the watch retains its original radium lume on both dial and hands, aged to a warm yellow.
