Description
Offered here is an extremely rare opportunity to own one of the rarest and most exclusive Rolex Daytonas of all time, the reference 6269, circa 1986. The reference 6269 (and its baguette counterpart, the 6270) marked the first time Rolex produced an “off-catalog” factory gem-set Daytona. These watches were produced for a very short window in the late 1980s, with very few examples known to have been sold by the maker. The reference 6269 features a bezel with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds. While most 6269s were fit with a pave-diamond dial, some examples – such as the present example – were fit with normal black or champagne dials. While gem-set Daytonas are very well-known in Rolex’s production in the modern era, the 6269/6270 was the genesis of this trend, and set the stage for all the crazy gem-set modern Daytonas we see today.
The condition on this Rolex Daytona is excellent, extremely well-preserved. The case remains thick and even, likely very lightly polished in the past. The dial remains very crisp, with minimal aging, and only minor loss to the 3 and 9 o’clock lume plots, as is common on these Daytona dials. Finally, the watch remains on its original gold Rolex Oyster 7205 rivet bracelet with correct 71 endlinks, and has 12 full links with no stretch.
If you are looking for a holy-grail Rolex Daytona, and in the best condition you could possibly find it, look absolutely no further. This watch comes out of the collection of the most esteemed Daytona collector in the world, and will be hard to replace!
