SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is a very special and rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual, reference 6098, circa 1953. This particular Oyster Perpetual is nicknamed the “Galaxy”, as seen in an old Rolex advertisement, and also due to the star-shaped hour markers applied on its honeycomb dial. According to some reports, only a dozen or so of these have surfaced over the years, and while the exact amount of production is unknown, it was clearly low. The watch itself is housed in a 36mm “Ovettone” case, similar to the other “Stelline” reference, the 6062.
The condition of this rare star-dial Oyster Perpetual is great. The case has been lightly polished in the past, retaining thick and even lugs, and has an engraving of a prior owner reading “H.W. Peters”. Further, the dial remains very well-preserved, with no major damage, and a light patina to the honeycomb texture. Finally, the original radium lume remains in-tact on both dial and hands, aged to a warm orange color, with very minor loss to the minute hand.
