SOLD
Description
Offered here is a beautiful and rare Patek Philippe Calatrava, Ref. 96. The Reference 96 was on of Patek’s most successful models, having been produced by them for over 40 years, in a variety of case metals and dial layouts. This particular example was housed in one of the most scarce metals that they produced watches in – stainless steel! It also features an very rare dial, fitted with “Breguet”-style numerals, a favorite amongst collectors. According to a Patek Philippe Extract of the Archives (included in the sale), this particular Calatrava was manufactured and subsequently sold in 1950.
This Patek Philippe Calatrava is in great vintage condition. The case does not show any signs of polishing, maintaining its original lug definition, and if it was polished, it was done lightly. The dial is very well-preserved, with some light patina/wear consistent with the aging of this model of Calatrava. Further, the watch is fitted on a period-correct steel Gay Freres beads of rice bracelet, a rarity in its own right.
