Patek Philippe "2526 Serpico Y Laino" Calatrava

SOLD

Patek Philippe “2526 Serpico Y Laino” Calatrava

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a very rare and important Patek Philippe Calatrava, reference 2526, circa 1956, in 18kt yellow gold.  The reference 2526 is important in the history of Patek Philippe, as it was the very first automatic movement Calatrava that they produced.  Further, this particular example stands out due to the fact that it was co-signed by the retailer “Serpico Y Laino”, based out of Venezuela, and was sold in 1957.  Interestingly enough, when the reference 2526 was introduced by Patek, the retail price was the same as a reference 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph!  According to the Extract from the Archives included in the sale, the watch was sold in June of 1957.

This Patek Philippe Calatrava is in excellent vintage condition.  The case appears unpolished, with normal wear from use, and the “S&L” engraving on the caseback is still visible; the caseback also shows an engraved from a prior owner.  The enamel dial is likewise in good condition, with no major wear or cracks.
