Offered here is an attractive and crisp example of the rare and insanely popular Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Reference 5402, circa 1973. Designed by Gerald Genta, the Royal Oak is the focal point and main attraction for the legendary watchmaker, and these first execution models have soared in popularity – finding a nice example has become harder and harder. This particular example is an “A”-series (1st batch of production) and is the only the second example of a 5402 that we have had the pleasure of offering for sale complete with its original box and papers! This particular Royal Oak comes with its original Audemars Piguet box, Guarantee Certificate (originally sold in May of 1973), and original Royal Oak booklet. Additionally, this is the lowest serial we have ever had for a 5402 – it is the 108th Royal Oak ever produced by the maker!
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak offered here is in great vintage condition. The case is sharp, with correct finish and bevels, professionally detailed by an expert on the Royal Oak case. The dial is beautiful, with a warm blue color, and no major peeling throughout. The original tritium lume is still present in both dial and hands, aged to a nice yellow color. The bracelet is crisp, and will fit an approximate 7.25″ wrist.
