Description
The Rolex Explorer II debuted in 1971, given the Reference 1655, and was an extension of Rolex’s Explorer line, creating a rugged sports watch, also featuring a GMT function. This GMT function is delineated by the addition of the “Freccione” or orange hand. This watch was popularized for its association with the famous actor, Steve McQueen. The present example is an MK2 Explorer II, produced circa 1973 (3.8m serial).
This Rolex Explorer II in great condition. The lugs are thick and even, and has been professionally redone to mimic the appearance of the original beveled edges of a factory finish. The dial is immaculate, with no chips or marks. The original lume is present in both the hands and dial markers, having aged to an amazing and vibrant yellow color. The original bezel is beautiful, with no detail loss. The watch comes equipped on a Rolex Oyster 78360 bracelet, with 580 endlinks, and 13 full links, and is in great condition, with no stretch.
