Description
Up for grabs is a very special and rare watch – Jorg Hysek’s greatest creation, the Vacheron Constantin 222. Introduced in 1977 to commemorate VC’s 222nd anniversary, and very much in response to the sports models of Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, the 222 was launched. Over the course of production of around eight years, only 700 pieces were produced by Vacheron Constantin. This particular VC 222 is a reference 44018, which is the “jumbo” variety, made in 37mm; the particular example was produced in 18kt yellow gold.
This Vacheron Constantin 222 is in nice vintage condition.. The case has been well preserved and shows nice beveled edges, detailed in the past. The dial is the standout, remaining in perfect condition. Further, the original tritium lume shows no loss, still present on both dial and hands, aged to a nice and creamy color. The bracelet shows no stretch and appears fully-linked. Please Note: there is an engraving on the caseback, and it appears someone attempted to laser off the bottom half of the engraving. Additionally, the Maltese cross on the flip-lock part of the clasp has been polished off.
