Universal Geneve “Eric Clapton” Tri-Compax

SOLD

Description

The 1960s Universal Geneve Tri-Compax with acrylic tachymeter bezel needs no introduction. It’s been revered for its perfectly proportioned dial, chunky, pragmatic chronograph pushers, and overall sports-driven design. After a simple glance at this UG, you’ll get all the hype. And it’s no surprise these seem to grow in price by the day.  This model, dubbed the “Eric Clapton” Tri-Compax was famously worn by the musician in the 1960-1970s.

The example offered today is in excellent vintage condition.  The case on this example appears unpolished, with some wear, and the serial and reference numbers are still visible on the outside of the caseback when viewed under a loupe. The dial is in great condition, with no chips, scratches, pitting, or spotting.  Further, the original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, aged uniformly to a yellow color. The moonphase disk has retained it’s shine, and the lume plots are almost all still in tact. The tachy bezel has virtually no wear, as most of these are completely destroyed.  And finally, the watch retains its original “U”-signed plastic crystal, a nice detail appreciated by collectors.
