Up for grabs is the most exemplary example of a gilt-dial Rolex Explorer, Ref. 1016, we have had the pleasure of offering for sale. This example dates to 1966, with a serial of 1.2m. The case is unpolished and very well-preserved. The gilt dial is a true mirror – it is in perfect condition, as glossy as the day it was manufactured, with no chips, scratches, or flaws. Further, the dial has started to turn tropical brown, and can be seen clearly under the sun or with light flashed directly on it. The original tritium lume is in-tact and preserved, present on both hands and dial, aged to a golden yellow.
