Up for grabs is the most exemplary example of a gilt-dial open-chapter ring Rolex Explorer, Ref. 1016, we have had the pleasure of offering for sale. This example dates to 1964, with a serial of 1.0m. The case is unpolished and very well-preserved. The gilt dial is a true mirror – it is in perfect condition, as glossy as the day it was manufactured, with no chips, scratches, or flaws. The original tritium lume is in-tact and preserved, present on both the original gilt hands and dial, aged to a golden yellow color. Finally, the watch comes fitted on its original Rolex Jubilee bracelet, with 55 endlinks, and dated to 1963, with stretch.
It is likely that this watch has never been serviced, and we were the first to open the caseback, as no service marks are found inside the caseback, and the movement screws seemingly have no wear. This is a true time-capsule, and an incredible collector’s grade watch.
