SOLD
Description
Offered here is a rare, incredibly cool, and early example of arguably Rolex’s most popular line – the Datejust. This Datejust bears a Reference of 6605, and was produced circa 1959. These early Datejusts were transitional from the Rolex Bubbleback models, sharing the Cal. 1065 movement, which was shortly thereafter replaced by the Cal. 1030. These early Datejusts often feature early “dauphine” hands, as can be seen on the present example. This particular example was housed in 18kt yellow gold, and shockingly, comes complete with its original Rolex box (even with its original “6605” sticker on the side of the outer box, and inner Datejust-specific box), original Chronometer Certificate from January of 1959, Guarantee Certificate (sold in November of 1960), hangtag, and extra accessories.
This Rolex Datejust is in great vintage condition. The case is thick and even, and very well-preserved for its age. The dial has achieved a visually striking patina throughout, giving it a very unique look. The original radium lume is present on the dial and hands, aged to a golden orange color. Further, the watch comes fitted on its original and extremely rare “big logo” Rolex Swiss Jubilee band, dated to 1959, and medium stretch, commiserate with the aging of Jubilee bands; the bracelet will accommodate a large wrist.
