Rolex “Full-Set 5512 MF” Submariner

SOLD

Description

Offered here is an exceptional example of a Rolex Submariner, Reference 5512, circa 1967 (1.8m serial).  It features a desirable “4-liner” matte dial, with four lines of text, as opposed to the two lines typical of the reference 5513 Submariner.  This was due to Rolex’s use of a chronometer certified movement in these model of Submariner, prompting them to signify as such on the dial.  Further, this is an early “meters first” dial, as seen in the first line of text on the bottom of the dial (200m=660ft).  Additionally, this watch comes complete as a super full-set, including its original Rolex box, “punched” timing Certificate, Warranty booklet (dating the sale of the watch to February of 1969 by Bucherer), Rolex Service booklet and Rolex service receipts from the 70s)

This early Submariner is in excellent vintage condition.  The case, if ever polished, was done lightly, retaining its original beveled eges. The dial is beautiful, with no chips, scratches, etc.  The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, and has aged to a golden yellow.  The original “Long 5” bezel insert is in good condition, with a nice faded appearance set in. The watch comes on its original Rolex Swiss Rivet 7206 bracelet with 80 endlinks, and dates to 1967; the bracelet has 10 full links and very light stretch.
