Description
Up for grabs is a Rolex Explorer I, Reference 1016, circa 1967, with an MK1 “Frog Foot” dial. Within a small serial range of 1.6-1.8m, certain early MK1 1016s were produced with what has been dubbed the “fat font” dial, due to the over-application of the tritium luminous material on the 3, 6 and 9 markers, giving them a much more bloated appearance when compared to a regular 1016 dial.
This particular Explorer is in great vintage condition. The case has been previously polished, but still retains thick and even lugs, with wear from use over the years. The dial is gorgeous, with no major damage, chips, scratches, etc. The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a nice pale yellow color. The watch comes equipped on a Rolex USA Jubilee bracelet, fitting an approximate 7.5″ wrist and showing some stretch/wear from use, although still completely useable.
