Rolex “6264 Paul Newman” Daytona

SOLD

Description

Offered here is a lovely and fresh-to-the-market example of Rolex Daytona, Ref. 6264, circa 1969-70, fitted with an exotic dial, nicknamed the “Paul Newman” Daytona, due to the fact that the famous actor favored wearing the Rolex Daytona with the exotic dial, and can be seen in many photographs wearing the watch.  This example is outfitted with a rare two-color panda dial and pump pushers, with a black, bakelite bezel.  The reference 6264 Newmans are considered some of the most desirable of all of the Newman variants, as the 6264 (and steel bezel version, reference 6262) was produced for only one year, and features the two-color dial variant, which many collectors find more aesthetically pleasing.

The condition of this Daytona is excellent. The case appears unpolished, with normal wear from use. The dial is in beautiful condition, with virtually no wear or scratches (the white portion of the dial shows extremely light aging, only visible under a loupe and difficult to see even with a loupe), extremely well-preserved. The original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, with extremely beautiful and puffy, yellow plots, and no visible loss whatsoever.  Further, the original “MK1” bakelite bezel shows no wear or cracks.

The watch comes on a Rolex Swiss folded-link 7836/19 bracelet with 271 endlinks, and has 13 full links and light stretch; the bracelet is dated to 1971
