Description
Up for grabs is a rare Rolex Daytona, the Reference 6240. The Reference 6240 is the first Daytona to transition from pump pushers to the still-used-today screw-down pushers, making it the first real waterproof Daytona. The 6240 was produced for a short time and only in steel, with a “Bakelite Bezel”, and is the first Daytona to use the inscription of “Oyster” on the dial. This example is an early 6240, from the first beginning of production, and dates to 1967 (1.6m serial).
This Rolex Daytona is in good vintage condition. The case does not appear to have been polished, remaining sharp with thick and even lugs. The dial is extremely attractive, with no visible damage. The original tritium lume is still present on both dial and hands, retaining nice yellow plots. The pushers are original MK1 pushers, possibly fit later on. Further, the watch retains its original MK1 bakelite bezel, with no wear or cracks.
The watch comes fitted on a Rolex Swiss 7205 rivet bracelet, with rare 71 endlinks and dating to 1966, and has 11 full links and no stretch.
