SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is a Rolex Explorer I, Reference 1016, with first execution “frog foot” dial, circa 1967. Within the first execution dials, a very small amount of dials were applied with presumably a different or more voluminous luminous compound, giving the markers a puffy or “fat” appearance, making them extremely desirable.
This particular Explorer is in great vintage condition. The case has been previously polished, but still retains thick and even lugs. The dial is gorgeous, with no major damage. The original tritium lume is present on the dial, aged to a nice dark yellow color; the hour and minute hands have been professionally color-matched to the dial (the seconds hand retains its original lume). The watch comes fitted on a Rolex C&I Rivet bracelet, dated to 1968, and has 10 full links (additional links can be included if needed) with very light stretch.
