SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is a spectacular example and set of a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, reference 3970 in 18kt yellow gold. This particular example was originally sold in 2000, and is fitted with a “fourth series” dial. Many collectors and enthusiasts unanimously concur that the 3970 is the last great “bargain” in the vintage Patek world, where other comparable perpetual calendar chronographs, either produced earlier or later, cannot be bought in the same price range as 3970s. This particular example comes complete, with its original Patek Philippe box, Certificate of Origin, hangtag, booklets/brochures, extra solid caseback, pin push tool, and original deployment buckle.
This Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is in excellent vintage condition. The case – if it was ever polished – was done very lightly, with crisp hallmarks and well-defined beveled lugs (which are usually rounded off from polishing). Likewise, the dial is immaculate, with no flaws.
A true collector’s watch, which happens to be in collector’s grade condition and completeness, these 3970s have finally moved from the “sleeper” category and in to the limelight, with some strong recent auction results. It is our opinion that it will not be long until these are trading quite higher than their current market value and not to be overlooked!
