Patek Philippe “Full-Set 3940J Dore” Perpetual Calendar

Up for grabs is a very special and rare Patek Philippe perpetual calendar watch, reference 3940J. This particular 3940 was born with a very uncommon “dore” (meaning gold/golden) dial, of which very few examples were produced. The “dore” dial was used on the very first 25 3940s ever produced for Beyer, and on a handful of watches thereafter, and the original certificates (and Archives) will state “Dore” or “gilded” dial. The present example is a 2nd execution. Further, this Patek Philippe Dore perpetual calendar comes complete with its original Patek Philippe box, original Certificate of Authenticity, and an Extract of the Archives, showing the original production of the watch to have been in 1988.

This Patek Philippe perpetual calendar is in excellent condition. The case appears unpolished, but if it was polished, it was done very lightly, with hallmarks still crisp and visible on the side of the watch. Further, the dial remains immaculate, with no wear, and taking on a very slight pinkish tone. Finally, the watch is fit on a black leather Patek Philippe strap with matching yellow gold Patek tang buckle.
