Offered here is an exceptionally rare and attractive Gruen Ocean Chief diver, circa 1950s. Gruen produced these dive watches as an answer to the Blancpain Fifty Fathom, Breitling SuperOcean, and Rolex Submariner of the same era, which were a commercial success at this time. Gruen even utilized the same bezel as the Breitling SuperOcean, giving the watch a unique, concave appearance.
This Gruen Ocean Chief is in great vintage condition. The case is unpolished and untouched. The glossy dial has turned a shiny, caramel tropical color, shining brown in any lighting. The original radium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow, and reading strongly on a geiger meter.
The accompanying bracelet is a generic beads-of-rice bracelet, and can be substituted for a leather strap upon request.
