Description
Offered here is one of the most respected and desirable time-only watches in independent horology — the F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu. The case is crafted in tantalum — a rare, dark grey metal with subtle blue overtones, named after the “Torment of Tantalus” from Greek mythology. It’s a material almost never seen in watchmaking, due to how difficult and demanding it is to work with. The dial is described by Journe as “chrome blue” — a vivid, almost sky-blue tone that shifts depending on the light, complementing the grey-blue tone of the case. This dial is considered the most complex dial surface that F.P. Journe produces, built up through a specialized chroming and lacquering process rather than a simple painted finish, which gives the color its distinctive depth. This particular example is in used condition, with a small ding on the case at 10 o’clock — otherwise clean throughout. Comes as a full set with original sales receipt, originally sold in 2012.
