Description
Offered here is an attractive example of the rare and insanely popular Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Reference 5402, circa 1970s. Designed by Gerald Genta, the Royal Oak is the focal point and main attraction for the legendary watchmaker, and these first execution models have soared in popularity – finding a nice example has become harder and harder. This particular example is incredibly rare due to its use of a matching champagne dial, of which an estimated less than 10% of all two-tone models were fit with. Further, this example was produced in the first year of the SAs (1977), and is the 36th two-tone Royal Oak ever produced (of 951 total pieces made).
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak offered here is in great vintage condition. The case has likely been polished/detailed in the past, but with extremely sharp edges. The dial is beautiful, with no wear whatsoever. The original tritium lume is still present in both dial and hands, aged to a nice pale yellow color. The bracelet shows no stretch, and will fit approximately a 7.5″ wrist, appearing fully-linked.
