SOLD
Description
Offered here is an attractive and crisp example of the rare and insanely popular Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Reference 5402, circa 1970s. Designed by Gerald Genta, the Royal Oak is the focal point and main attraction for the legendary watchmaker, and these first execution models have soared in popularity – finding a nice example has become harder and harder. This particular example is a first-series, or “A” series, meaning it was the very first batch of production, of only allegedly two thousand were produced.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak offered here is in great vintage condition. The case appears unpolished and sharp; if it was ever polished, it was done lightly, and still retains its thick beveled edges. The dial is beautiful, with a warm blue color, and a unique tropical/aging of the color, most noticeable in the center of the dial. The original tritium lume is still present in both dial and hands, aged to a nice yellow color. The bracelet is very crisp, with no stretch, and dated to 1972, and will fit an approximate 6.75″ wrist.
