Rolex “Patrizzi Inverted 6 Zenith” Daytona

Up for grabs is a lovely example of the incredibly popular Rolex “Zenith” Daytona, so-called for its movement made by the brand, Zenith. Rolex introduced the automatic movement chronograph in 1987, using a movement manufactured by Zenith, as it was the industry’s only self-winding chronograph movement that met Rolex’s high quality standards. This particular watch is an early example, and dates to 1989. Further, this watch has an early “inverted 6” dial, as the 6 located in the bottom register was incorrectly inverted, appearing to look like a 9, which Rolex corrected in the mid-1990s. Lastly, these early models featured a “225” bezel, using a slightly different UPH scale, and is quite uncommon.
This Rolex Daytona is in great vintage condition. The case does not appear to have been polished in the past (or if it was, it was extremely light). The dial is in excellent condition, with only light wear to the lacquer around the edges of the registers (which was common for these black dials). Also, the registers have begun to age in color, turning slightly brown, or the so-called “Patrizzi” effect. The bezel shows no detail/color loss.
Finally, the watch comes on its original Rolex 78360/503 Oyster bracelet, with 12 full links, and no stretch.
