Description
Up for grabs is one the most, if not THE most, desirable Universal Geneve Tri-Compax in their entire line. Dubbed the “exotic” or “Paul Newman” tri-compax, due to its step-dial and grey metallic color, contrasted against a blue chapter ring, this watch is adorned by collectors as the “it” sport Tri-Compax.
The example offered today is in amazing condition, possibly the nicest we have ever seen for sale in quite some time. The case is unpolished and sharp, with defined beveled edges on the twisted lugs. The dial is excellent, with almost no wear. In addition, the original tritium lume is still completely present on both dial and hands, aged to a golden yellow color. The acryllic bezel shows almost no wear, which is rarely seen on these models. Finally, the watch retains its original “U”-signed crystal, and the reference and serial numbers on the outside of the caseback are crisp and visible without a loupe.
The watch comes fitted on a beads-of-rice JB Champion bracelet, the same bracelet produced for UG (albeit this one without a UG clasp). This is a true “collector’s grade” Tri-Compax, and have become incredibly difficult to find in such spectacular condition.
