Up for grabs is a very special and rare watch – a Rolex Submariner, Reference 5512, circa 1978, with a Maxi Mark 1 (MK1) dial. The “maxi” dial 5512s were produced for a very short window in the late 1970s, and have become a very difficult watch to track down.
The watch itself is in great vintage condition. The case has been previously polished, but shows nicely beveled egdes, and remains thick and even. The dial is excellent, with no flaws. The original tritium lume is present on the dial, aged to a nice cream color; the hands have been professionally color-matched to the dial. Further, the watch retains its period-correct bezel insert, which has aged/faded to a lovely light blue “ghost” color. The watch comes fitted on a Rolex Oyster 93150 flip-lock bracelet with 580 endlinks; the bracelet has 10 full links and no stretch.
