Jaeger LeCoultre Triple-Date Calendar

SOLD

Description

Jaeger LeCoultre, often referred to as the “watchmaker’s watch brand” is well-regarded as one of the best and most storied brands in the world, still churning out top-quality and high-end watches to this day. During the vintage heyday of the 1940s and 1950s, JLC was so far ahead of the curve that many other brands would often have them produce watch movements and parts for their own watches.

During World War II, while other brands limited their production and were hesitant to design new, innovative watches and movements, JLC moved forward, business-as-usual. From 1943 to 1949, they produced what many believe to be their most attractive watch design to-date: the triple-date calendar watch.

The watch up for grabs today is the uncommon stainless steel version (they were usually produced in 18kt gold). The teardrop lugs and case are completely unpolished and untouched. Every single part on the watch is original – the dial, hands, crown, and French day-month wheel. The copper two-tone dial has developed a beautiful tropical-patina, and is in great condition, showing only one minor scratch between 6 and 7. Further, the movement recently went a complete overhaul, and is in perfect working order. The caseback is engraved “BANQUE CANTONALE VAUDOISE – 1845-1945”. It is believed that this watch was given to VIP clients of the Swiss bank (still very much in operation today, referred to in the short as “BCV Bank”) to commemorate the bank’s 100 year anniversary.
