SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is an extremely rare Rolex Day-Date, Ref. 1803. This example dates to 1971, and was fit with the very first iteration of the “wood” dial that Rolex produced – the Sequoia dial. These early wood-Sequoia dials appear very raw, as they were not given a coat of lacquer such as later generation Birch and Burlwood dials. Further, this watch comes complete as a super full-set, maintaining its original Rolex leather “Presidential” box and “punched” Warranty Certificate, showing the original date of sale in 1974 in Andorra, as well as some original booklets.
The condition of this Rolex Day-Date is great. The case has been lightly detailed in the past, remaining sharp and thick. The dial is likewise in great condition, with no cracks or flaws to the finish of the wood-grain dial. Further, the original tritium lume remains present on both dial and hands, aged to a nice yellow color.
The watch comes on its original and early 18kt Rolex Swiss Presidential bracelet, with light stretch, and will fit a large wrist (fully linked).
