SOLD
Description
Offered here is a great example of the so-called “transitional” Submariner, the Reference 16800, which was Rolex’s follow-up to the Reference 1680. The 16800 introduced the quick-set function to the Submariner and featured their new Caliber 3035 movement. These watches were fitted with both matte and gloss dials; this particular example dates to 1983, and is fitted with a gloss dial.
The present example is in excellent vintage condition. The case appears unpolished, with original beveled edges, and normal wear. The dial is beautiful, with no scratches, cracks to the lacquer, tool marks, etc. The original tritium lume is present on both hands and dial, aged to a vibrant yellow color. The watch comes on a Rolex 93150/593 bracelet, in excellent condition with minimal stretch, and 11 full links.
