SOLD
Description
In 1999, Rolex broke from tradition, and made a limited run of watches — something they virtually never do — in order to commemorate the transfer of the Panama Canal from the United States to Panama. A total of 150 pieces were produced (75 in steel, 75 in two-tone stainless steel and gold), and were only available for sale originally from the A.D. (Authorized Dealer) in Panama. These pieces are very hard to come by, and very rarely come up for sale. This particular example is housed in stainless steel, and is edition number 56/75; the dials feature and emblem of the Panama Canal above 6 o’clock. This particular Panama Canal Submariner is extremely well-preserved remaining unpolished and sharp, clearly very rarely used, and with its original caseback sticker still in tact; the bracelet has 11 full links and with no stretch.
