SOLD
Description
Up for grabs is a very rare and important Patek Philippe Calatrava, reference 2526, circa 1950s, in 18kt yellow gold. The reference 2526 is important in the history of Patek Philippe, as it was the very first automatic movement Calatrava that they produced. Further, this particular example stands out due to the fact that it was co-signed by the retailer “Gubelin”, based out of Switzerland. Interestingly enough, when the reference 2526 was introduced by Patek, the retail price was the same as a reference 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph! The present example is a “second series” example, with minor differences to the case and dial construction when compared to earlier examples. Please Note: an Extract of the Archives has been ordered, and will be provided upon receipt.
This Patek Philippe Calatrava is in excellent vintage condition. The case appears very lightly polished, with normal wear from use, and a crisp hallmark between the lugs at 6 o’clock.. The enamel dial is likewise in excellent condition, with no major wear or cracks. The watch is fit on a black leather Patek Philippe strap and matching gold Patek tang buckle.
