Vacheron Constantin “44018 Tropical” 222

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a very special and rare watch – Jorg Hysek’s greatest creation, the Vacheron Constantin 222.  Introduced in 1977 to commemorate VC’s 222nd anniversary, and very much in response to the sports models of Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, the 222 was launched.  Over the course of production of around eight years, only 700 pieces were produced by Vacheron Constantin.  This particular VC 222 is a reference 44018, which is the “jumbo” variety, made in 37mm.

This Vacheron Constantin 222 is in great vintage condition, and very uniquely aged.  The case has been well preserved and shows nice beveled edges.  The dial is the standout, and the only example we have seen that has aged from its factory silver color to a warm and even patina beige color.  Further, the original tritium lume shows no loss, still present on both dial and hands, aged to a nice and creamy color.  The bracelet shows some stretch from use, and will fit an approximate 7.5″ wrist.
