Description
Tavannes dates back to 1891, founded by Henri-Frdric Sandoz in Switzerland. They have enjoyed a rich heritage of producing top-notch Swiss watches, and namely, chronographs.
This is a special “clamshell” chronograph, circa 1940-1950s, so dubbed for it’s special case, which is composed of separate parts. These cases were not often used, and are extremely collectible. This particular watch is a large 38mm, which was huge for the time. The case in unpolished and mint. The dial is lovely, and has developed a yellow-cream patina. The original caseback and movement are both signed (PICTURES UPON REQUEST). There is some color fading in the bottom right corner. This watch is also accented by it’s multi-color dial and multiple scales, and namely, the blue telemeter scale.
