Rolex “Two-Tone Root Beer” GMT-Master

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a lovely example of the popular “Root Beer” Rolex GMT-Master, in two-tone steel and yellow gold, circa 1979.  This was the first year of the transitional reference 16753, which upgraded the earlier reference 1675 with a new movement and quickset function, allowing the user to change the date with much greater ease.  This example features the so-called “nipple” dial, due to the smaller hour markers, and is applied on a maroon-brown iridescent “sunburst” dial.

The Rolex GMT-Master offered here is in excellent vintage condition.  The case is unpolished and razor sharp, with nice original beveled edges.  The dial is gorgeous, with no chips, scratches or marks, and shows only the lighest of discoloration to the lacquer around the base of the hands and some of the markers.  The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a beautiful orange/pumpkin color.  The watch comes fitted on a rare Mexican Rolex Jubilee band, with medium stretch, in good condition for its age.
