Universal Geneve “Full-Set 885107 Exotic” Compax

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is a great example of the immensely popular Universal Geneve Compax, often referred to as the exotic Compax or “exotic Nina Rindt”. This iteration is immensely popular due to its colorful silver dial with blue registers and matching blue bakelite bezel.  Additionally, what sets this particular watch apart from the rest, is that it comes with its original Universal Geneve box, hangtag, original UG leather strap/steel buckle, and filled-out Warranty Certificate, almost never seen with these watches!  Further, the watch has amazing provenance, featuring a caseback engraving that reads “Paulsen-Webber Award. For Outstanding Practical Seamanship. Presented to Midshipman Carl M. McCormick.  June 21, 1974.”, corresponding to the date of sale on the papers.

This Universal Geneve “Exotic” Compax is in perfect vintage condition.  The case is unpolished and blemish free, with all serial and reference numbers visible on the caseback.  The dial is mint, with no visible wear. The original tritium lume is still present in the hands, aged to a nice yellow patina. The bezel is very clean, with no cracks.

Overall, it does not get more “collector’s grade” than this; not only has the watch itself incredibly well-preserved, but it comes complete with its original box and papers, and with very cool provenance to boot!
