Up for grabs is one the most, if not THE most, desirable Universal Geneve Tri-Compax in their entire line. Dubbed the “exotic” or “Paul Newman” tri-compax, due to its step-dial and grey metallic color, this watch is adorned by collectors as the “it” sport Tri-Compax.
The example offered today is in very good vintage condition. The case appears unpolished, with defined beveled edges on the twisted lugs. The dial shows light spotting and slight discoloration in the registers, only largely visible under a loupe. The acryllic bezel shows light wear, consistent with the aging of this particular model of tri-compax. The serial/reference is no longer visible on the outside of the caseback.
The watch also comes fitted on the original and correct Gay Freres bracelet, with correct endlinks for this watch.
